Believing in each and every student is essential in the field of education. Truly knowing each student has the power to improve and do better is something a teacher must believe in. The art of teaching is bringing this potential out of each student. Each teacher should have the same belief but use different techniques. Personally I use preparation, enthusiasm and leading by example.
When teaching, each day is a well thought out process where the professional thinks about all the different ways of portraying the topic and everything that can affect the lesson. Each lesson should start with a goal; the teacher will do a top down format of each lesson to see where he/she should start. Now that the plan is set the teacher needs to come into the classroom and arrange equipment and environment that best suits the lesson. These are examples of preparation; this is the first step of actually moving toward of goal of unpacking everyone’s potential good.
Enthusiasm is the next step in my process of teaching, having the information and a map of the destination is one thing but portraying the lesson is something that comes naturally. Having love for your career will instill enthusiasm, being truly excited to teach will provide energy to the class which will promote learning. Using props and pictures are all a necessity that educators can do to increase learning.
Hidden curriculum is very powerful, being a role model and leading by example is something that involves character. Not just teaching a subject but living it is a way to show students that knowledge is important and useful for a life time. Students will notice the teachers who do not demonstrate a respect for their subject and disregard all information that is taught. Having the commitment to portray the characteristics of the subject you teach is something that influential teachers will do. I know combination of all three beliefs will produce a person who is certain of and impacts each student who crosses their path.
